1. GET READY FOR WINTER
Many of us are anxious about this being our most expensive heating season yet. Community Environmental Center (CEC) will give a brief presentation on how their weatherization services can keep you and your wallet comfortable this winter.
CEC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides energy, building performance and environmental services for residents in the New York metropolitan area.
They will discuss:
- Tests they perform on houses
- How they fix problems (adding insulation, sealing drafts, tuning boilers, etc.)
- Estimated cost/fuel savings
- Costs and payment options - fee-for-service, loans, and highly-subsidized financing for eligible homeowners.
CEC comes recommended by BHA Board member Joel Potischman and his wife, Pam. "My wife and I hired them to insulate and seal our very cold and drafty home 6 years ago and the results were dramatic, so I was very excited to share this resource with my neighbors."
2. ATLANTIC YARDS/ARENA
We need to keep our elected officials aware that we want them to keep the pressure on the developer of this project, Forest City Ratner, to improve, change, mitigate, and reduce the size of this HUGE development. Find out how to do this!
3. HOYT/SCHERMERHORN
Find out what is happening on the 3 (previous) parking lots in Boerum Hill (Atlantic to State and Smith, State to Schermerhorn and Smith to Hoyt, State to Schermerhorn and Hoyt to Bond)
4. HISTORY OF WHAT WAS UNDER THE PLAYGROUND @ P.S. 261
Erik Fortmeyer, the Boerum Hill Historian, will tell us the fascinating history of what was in this block of 'old' Boerum Hill, and of the archaeological dig he will lead with the school when the playground is dug up and renovated in the spring.
Lastly, Mia, the new Thai Restaurant on the North side of Atlantic, between Nevins & Third, will be donating light refreshments for everyone to sample.
Hope to see you - please come and see your neighbors - learn and enjoy!
